Requirements

  1. The department requires that all its members live close to or inside the borders of the community.
  2. Age requirements are 16 years to 17 years for Junior Firefighters, and 18 years and up for active firefighters or EMT.
  3. Active members should be in good physical condition.
  4. Active members (18 and older) must hold a valid Maine Drivers License.
  5. All members must be in good standing in the community and must submit to a background check.
  6. You must be willing to give the time needed to the department for training, maintenance, etc. These hours are in addition to time spent responding to emergency calls
  7. You must be willing to respond when available to emergencies at any time. Many times calls occur during periods when members are at work or out of town and the department understands this. All we ask is that you respond when it is possible.
  8. Complete a 180-day probation period and attend one-third of all functions. Attendance is checked quarterly.
  9. You must be voted on by the department officers of the section you are applying for at an officers meeting. You will be required to attend this meeting as an interview.
  10. Lastly, you will most likely still have questions, please feel free to ask any of the officers; if they cannot answer the questions they will know where to find the answers.

Steps you must take to join

In order to be considered as a probationary firefighter or EMT, you must complete the following steps:
  1. Obtain a membership packet. The packet consists of a membership application and a job description for either or both firefighter or EMT.
  2. Please carefully study and complete all forms. You must bring all forms to the Chief’s office before a meeting with the officers will be held. Prospective members must be in attendance at the officer’s meeting before a vote can be held.
  3. The applicant must submit a current photocopy of their driver license for a records check.
  4. The department will do a background check from the information provided on the application.
  5. An officer will discuss the rules and policies of the department with the probationer after the Officers have voted to accept. He/she will be given a copy of the Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG) which he/she must study before advancing to the status of firefighter or EMT.
  6. Personal protection equipment will not be issued until the 1st training session the probationary member attends. This equipment will remain at the station until the member is accepted as a full department member. Probationary members must attend one training session a month during the probationary period.
  7. If a probationary member works on scheduled training days and cannot attend, he/she must call an officer and inform the officer of the conflict. The probationary member must make up training time during the probation period either with ONE on ONE sessions with Officers or by attending additional training days the next month.

*** Please note that your application will go on file as there are no openings at this time.
