MCI
Training: On
Thursday, September 17th, 2009, ten members of New Gloucester Fire &
Rescue along with United Ambulance, Durham Fire/Rescue and Poland
Fire/Rescue participated in a mock Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) exercise
with Maine Task Force One a medical tactical team of the Homeland
Security Department. The exercise involved the mock crash of a C-130
plane from Brunswick Naval Air Station in a field at the Pineland Campus
located in New Gloucester. The exercise tested the readiness of the task
force to respond on a moments notice, get to the location, set up a
field hospital tent, and perform secondary triage on 36 simulator
manikins that had been removed from the field by the first responders.
The fire rescue organizations worked side-by-side with doctors, nurses,
and other professionals on the team until all 36 patients had received
secondary triage. The exercise lasted four hours and gave invaluable
training to all involved. Top |

Cold Water Rescue Training:
This past winter NGFRD conducted a cold-water rescue
training at the Outlet on Sabbathday Lake. Click here

Hose Testing Training:
The NGFRD recently went to Pineland Farms to conduct their hose testing.
This testing needs to be done periodically to prevent any problems with
cracks or broken hoses in the event of a real fire. With many hundreds
of feet of hose on all the trucks in the department this task sometimes
takes several days to complete. Top

Class B Propane Training:
This training was attended by the New Gloucester & Pownal Fire Rescue
Depts. at the NGFR Station, 611 Lewiston Rd. The training was hosted by
Downeast Energy. Both departments completed 8 hours of classroom time
and then participated in a live burn. The subject of the class was Class
B burns. In this training they practiced with a Liquid Propane Gas
emergency. The town of New Gloucester carries a great risk of these
emergencies due to the major trucking routes of the Maine Turnpike,
Route 26 & Route 100. New Gloucester also has two sets of railroad
tracks that any given day carry LP Gas in the railroad car tanks. The
departments practiced for 4 hours extinguishing these types of fires.
The firefighters from both towns practiced on how to safely extinguish a
propane gas fire. This video symbolizes a potential propane emergency
that could be sustained by a propane grill tank at a home. The NGFR
hopes everyone will use caution & common sense whenever a gas grill is
being used. Top |
